About Alexander
Alexander Bakker is a comprehensively certified and trained Pilates teacher through Polestar Pilates and in the Classical Pilates method. Together with Patricia Velasquez, he is the co-owner of Body-Stream.
A Personal Journey to Pilates
Alexander’s path to becoming a Pilates instructor began with his own struggle with chronic back pain. He started practicing Pilates in hopes of improving and resolving his back pain issues. Through the Pilates method, he was able to strengthen his abdominal and back muscles and subsequently developed minimal back problems.
The profound effect of the Pilates method on his own body and quality of life inspired Alexander to pursue teacher training so he could share the benefits of Pilates with others facing similar challenges.
Before becoming a Pilates teacher, Alexander coached and trained employees in corporate settings, which provided him with a strong foundation in teaching and motivation. This experience follows him into his Pilates classes today.
Alexander's Teaching Approach
It is very important to Alexander to integrate humor and create a relaxed atmosphere in his lessons. He believes that movement should be enjoyable, not intimidating. His classes balance proper technique with an encouraging, lighthearted environment where clients feel comfortable, motivated and challenged.

Clients appreciate Alexander’s personal understanding of what it’s like to struggle with pain and his genuine desire to help others experience the relief he found through Pilates. His coaching background means he knows exactly how to challenge people at the right level – encouraging them to grow without overwhelming them.
As a male instructor, Alexander also provides representation for men in the Pilates world, helping male clients feel welcome and showing them how Pilates can complement their fitness goals.
